March, 2002--The Lord does lead in many ways. I grew up in Michigan
(Saginaw). A new Christian and Missionary Alliance Church was starting in our
neighborhood. Being unsatisfied where we were, my Mother decided that we should try this new store front group. She got involved with the
ladies group. That group was called W.M.P.F, or as some will
remember: Women's Missionary Prayer Fellowship.
I wanted to go with her to these meetings. It was interesting working on projects to send to the
missionaries. The projects were sent all over the world. I really enjoyed being
with those ladies. They spent a lot of time praying for the missionaries.
We would go to the store to purchase items for the missionaries when they came to visit at our church. It
stirred my heart to hear them speak of their adventures in lands far away. I
especially liked it when they showed pictures of their work. Even as a young
girl, I began to dream of someday being able to go to other countries and see for myself
how to serve people around the world.
After High School, I attended St Paul Bible Institute (now called Crown College).
Since graduation, I have had the opportunity to visit 13 different countries. These experiences helped me in service at home in the local church to lead
our ladies groups. The way had been paved in my heart to lead as Area President and District President.
I am blessed to know so many of you women in our District, to still work together with
you to serve those missionaries that we send out, from our churches, to spread the Gospel of Christ. Together,
you and I have shared in the service of holding up our missionaries in prayer.
I want to thank all of you for allowing me the many years to serve the King of Kings, as
co-worker with you. Because of our ministry, as Alliance Women in missions
and prayer, we will see many thousands of souls in heaven, and know that we
have had a part in their being there.
Love to you all!
Joyce Newsom
